Whether you are tinkering on your hot rod in your home garage or performing multiple tune-ups each day in your professional automotive repair shop, the gas-powered equipment and industrial chemicals you use can built up toxic levels of fumes very quickly, and without you noticing until it is too late. And combustion engines are a major source of invisible gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.
Inside a closed area, high concentrations of these gases can rise to dangerous levels. Installing a ventilation system that draws in cooler, cleaner air from outside and expels hot, humid air is an ideal safety solution. A ventilation system will also mitigate fumes, vanquish mold and mildew, cool the space and even minimize your energy bill. And a good shop HVAC system doesn't need to be particularly complicated or expensive.
NAPA Auto Parts offers a wide range of shop fans from massive shop ceiling fans to easily moveable 3-speed high-velocity jobsite fans. Some auto shop fans are even engineered for indoor and outdoor use. Need to keep air flowing in a large space? NAPA has the best shop air movers, from extreme industrial powered blowers to compact air movers. We also carry a comprehensive selection of vacuum cleaners and shop vacs to keep dust, particles and metal shavings to a minimum. Browse popular brands like Big Ass Fans, Flex-A-Lite, GearWrench, Master Heater, Pinnacle, Portacool, Power Breezer and more today!
To get work done in a professional body shop throughout the entire year, garage heating is vital. It can help keep a bare concrete space comfortable and productive. Be aware, some heating methods can be dangerous in small spaces. You'll also want to avoid expensive utility bills by making sure your heated air stays where you want it. Proper garage insulation is essential to prevent heat from escaping. Shop with NAPA Auto Parts for shop heaters, from portable radiant heaters to wall-mounted fuel-powered furnace heaters, and even shop broilers.
Normally, forced air systems might make you think of larger, permanently installed systems, but there are a host of smaller, portable forced air heaters available. These designs make use of a small blower that passes air over an infrared heating panel, sending warmth out into the room without requiring a connection to a central system. The simplest designs are electric, which you just need to plug into the wall, but these typically aren't very efficient, and can use a significant energy to heat a larger room. Propane is a popular fuel source for infrared heaters, and generally consumes less energy than a similar sized electric heater. Modern propane heaters also include sensors to monitor gas levels in a room.
Of course, in certain months and certain locations, the issue is expelling hot air and circulating cold air, which not only keeps auto mechanics cool, calm and collected, but also expensive equipment operating at high temps. One cost-effective cooling method includes installing a window air conditioner or using a portable floor unit. NAPA Auto Parts stocks the latest and greatest shop air coolers, including powerful air conditioners and swamp cooler evaporators.
If your garage has enough clearance (at least eight feet high), installing a ceiling fan is a cost effective way to keep your garage cool. Ensure the blades are between seven and nine feet above the floor and 10 to 12 inches below the ceiling. Also consider running a dehumidifier to reduce the relative humidity of the space. You can use a dehumidifier alone or in conjunction with your other cooling methods. You don't have to break the bank or become an HVAC specialist to ensure proper garage ventilation. Just make sure that it fits your budget and sufficiently transports any harmful fumes from your workspace.
